Where has the Time Gone? (and what the heck have I been up to?!)

It feels like forever since I sat down and wrote something. Time is slipping away faster than I can keep up and, unfortunately, that has meant the blog and writing have been forgotten. Not really forgotten, though, more like neglected because the nagging guilt of not writing and staying involved on the blog never really goes away.

So maybe you’re wondering where I’ve been. What we’ve been up to. So, here’s a quick run-down of what we’ve been up to the past two-or-so months (spoiler: it’s been a ton of running around!)

  • We sold our house in Florida the end of May and closed on our new house in New Jersey in mid-June.
  • Honeybun did a 3-day fossils and minerals camp while we still did our regular afternoon gymnastics activities as well (school doesn’t get out here until the end of June!)
  • Then we took a 10-day trip to Dublin (because who doesn’t buy a house and immediately leave the country?) and it was amazing.
  • We’d planned to have our stuff delivered the first week of July and start settling into the new house but the movers were less than cooperative.
  • We spent Honeybun’s 10th birthday at the new house with no furniture other than our new couch but I was able to make her the cake she wanted.
  • We re-did the dining room having a built-in buffet removed, painted, replaced the light fixture and hung new curtains and I’m so pleased with how everything came together.
  • Our stuff arrived the 2nd week of July, the same week Sugarplum started her every morning gymnastics practices. And the delivery of our shipment was a complete circus. The movers did not complete the job,  I ended up unpacking almost as much as they did (our relocation package with hubby’s company included having our entire house packed, moved, unpacked and trash taken away) and it took us almost 2 more weeks of fighting with the relocation company to get someone out to finish unpacking the 50+ boxes that the original moving crew left untouched.
  • And then we got to sort through all the things that were piled up all over the house and assess the damage made to our priceless memories as we pulled item after item that was haplessly shoved into boxes then smashed, crushed and crumbled as they were packed up.
  • We moved into the house, among the boxes, a few days after the initial delivery because hubby’s parents drove down to visit for a week.
  • My parents came a few days later and spent two weeks with us, helping to manage the kids while I tried to get all the things put away and we celebrated Sugarplum’s 8th birthday just before they headed back to Colorado.
  • Meanwhile, we’ve been telling Pipsqueak since we moved to New Jersey that once we were in our new house he’d get to use the big potty. So, among all the chaos, potty training happened. And while the first 10ish days were tough, it finally just “clicked” and he’s been doing great ever since (he was definitely one of the easiest of the four!)
  • We’re also in the process of getting the basement finished out (though it will be many months before it’s done and usable) as well as putting in a large wall-to-wall bookshelf/storage cabinet in our living room–and that has been one heck of a process!
  • I’ve been working on re-purposing curtains from our old-old house for our living room while also still trying to deal with massive piles of stuff and figure out where it is all going to live long-term.
  • Sugarplum has been working her cute little butt off at the gym and has 3 weeks left of every-morning 8 am gym practice. Honeybun has started two weeks of morning ice skating camp which will be followed by a week of all-day camp, 30+ minutes away.
  • Doodle starts kindergarten this year. Honeybun is making the jump to middle school. Sugarplum will have practice 5 afternoons a week during the school year. And Pipsqueak is a high-energy and exhausting as always.

So, while I hope to get back on the writing and blogging bandwagon now that things have “settled” down, I’m also not making myself any promises!
