Jingle Bells: A Holiday Parenting Song

Sometimes I like to re-write songs/poems to match my life (like my “Two Weeks Before Christmas” and “In Summer”).  So here’s my latest version of Jingle Bells:

jingle bells

Dashing through the rain
With a baby in my sling
O’er the puddles we go
My toddler whining all the way!
“Rain go away” my daughter sings
Making my ears sore
No fun it is to drag this crew
Through a big downpour!

downpour

Oh! Jingle bells, we’re not well
We’ve all got a cold
The runny noses and grumpy kids
Is getting really old.
Jingle bells, I’m not well
I just might lose my mind
Oh, what fun it is to parent
During Christmastime!

A day or two ago
I thought that we’d have fun
But everything fell apart
And now I’m just done!
The kids don’t listen to me
And the baby doesn’t sleep at night
I just hope someday they see
So our holidays can be bright!

Jingle bells, my toddler smells
It’s rank like rotten eggs
No fun for me when he eats cheese
And hubby is away. Yay!
Jingle bells, I’m not well
I just might lose my mind
Oh, what fun it is to parent
During Christmastime!

My shopping list is 10 miles long
And the date is getting near
I still have tons to do and
There isn’t much holiday cheer.
Gifts and cards and dinner,
It’s all too much for me
But I’m going to get it done,
You just wait and see!

Oh, jingle bells, now the baby smells
He projectile vomited everywhere
And then my daughter, trying to help,
Dropped dirty diapers on the stairs, oy!
Jingle bells, I’m not well
I just might lose my mind
Oh, what fun it is to parent
During Christmastime!

The presents are not wrapped,
I thought I had more time
But the days are flying by
And coming soon is the deadline.
There’s so much I’d like to do:
Make cookies, crafts and fudge
But the baby feeds so much
From the couch I can not budge!presents

Jingle bells, something fell
I need to investigate
Because now the kids are screaming loud
And I’ll have to mitigate.
Jingle bells, I’m not well
I just might lose my mind
Oh, what fun it is to parent
During Christmastime!
