Two weeks before Christmas

two weeks before christmas

‘Twas two weeks before Christmas and in my haste,
Christmas had thrown up all over the place!

The stockings were not hung by the chimney with care,
Instead flung over the back of a chair!

The room is stilled filled with oodles of boxes,
While my head spins not with carols but songs about foxes.

The tree is put up and adorned with good cheer,
But I dread that St. Nicholas soon will be here.

Nowhere to be found are the beloved Christmas scents,
Nor under the tree are there any presents.

The lights are put up and the holly wreath too,
But there is still just too much to do!

My shopping list is still more than a mile long
And through all the stress I’m trying to stay strong.

As my dear friends around the world dig out of the snow,
I have been busy with a holiday show.

My weekend flew by in a blink of the eye

But I can’t help but marvel at the beautiful blue sky.

The temperature outside is still nice and roasty,
No need to curl up by the fire to get toasty.

And while I like going out for a stroll,
The feeling of Christmas is a little bit droll.

No dusting of snow, no chill in the air,
Instead I’m in charge of my own Christmas flair.SONY DSC

So I turn on the carols and light a few candles,
And try to forget that I’m still wearing sandals.

For the spirit of Christmas is not in the things
Or in the heaps of presents that Santa might bring.

Christmas is for celebrating family and friends
And I’m not looking forward to when it all ends.

Because I know it will all be over in a flash
And away my family will be gone in a dash.

And we will return back to the normal, everyday grind,
When all of the Christmas hullabaloo is behind.

So I tell my girls to be thankful for those that they love,
And to give each one a very big Christmas hug!
