What We’re Up to Now

More than once in past few weeks I’ve sat down to write something but the words didn’t come. My mind is constantly racing with all the things and often getting a thought together whether for a blog post or simple spoken sentence has become a challenge.

Here’s where life stands at this moment:

Movers come in 6 days to pack everything up. It is supposed to take 3 days total to get all our worldly possessions packed into boxes and onto a truck.

We will be staying in our house here in Florida for 5 days after the movers take all the things (we’re not taking all of our furniture so will still be living comfortably).

We’ll take 4 days to drive from South Florida to New Jersey.

We’ve found a house we love in New Jersey and will hopefully be able to move in as soon as we arrive.

I have no idea when our things will arrive in New Jersey.

So, in the process of all this, here’s what I’m currently involved in:

Sorting through all the things.

It’s been my goal to touch every single thing in our house prior to the movers arriving to make sure whatever makes it to New Jersey is the things we actually want to have there. I’ve been working on this since January and  feel like I’m 90%ish done.

Figuring out what goes with us.

Originally we were looking at being in temporary housing for 3 months or more so I’ve been setting things aside we’d likely need at that time and would need to take in the cars with us when we drive. However, now that we will be in our long-term home right away, I need to rethink all my short-term life plans.

Getting our Florida house ready to sell.

Originally we weren’t going to list our current house for sale until we were moved out but the universe laughed at us so it is now currently on the market for sale. Which means I could have potential buyers ready to come see it at any moment. Which means I need to keep it generally clean and tidy at all times. Which means keeping my tiny tornadoes reigned in (ha!)

Using all the things.

Lunches and dinners have gotten quite interesting as I’ve stopped grocery shopping for more than fresh things (fruits, veggies, milk, bread, eggs) and am trying to use up all the things I’ve hoarded over the years so that nothing is wasted. I’m generally a creative cook, putting together whatever we have to make a meal but as options get slim, so does my creativity. We’ve had some big winners like last night’s greek lamb burgers and some not-so-muchs like last week’s sweet and sourish pork and risotto. But the silver lining is everyone is fed and healthy.

Living life as normally as possible.

And until we’re officially on the road and out of here, I’m trying to make life as normal as possible for the kids. The girls are still doing school. Sugarplum’s last competition was last weekend but she’s still doing her normal training schedule at the gym and Doodle and Honeybun are still doing their classes as well.

See all the people!

We’re not leaving Florida forever, we’ll for sure be back to visit but we’ve made so many great friends during our time here that it’s hard to say good-bye. We’re trying to catch up with as many people as possible before we leave which keeps us busy!
