100 Great things about Homeschool

Today is a pretty cool day in our house: Today is our 100th day of homeschooling!  When we took this big step over 5 months ago, I know we’d make it.  And I was pretty sure we’d like it.  But what I didn’t expect was how much we would LOVE it!  I didn’t expect it to make such a drastic difference in our day to day, family life but it really has.

When I decided to try to think of 100 things we love about homeschooling, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do it.  But with a little help from the girls, here it is, 100 Great things about homeschool!

  1. HomeschoolThe flexibility
  2. Being able to travel when we want
  3. Being able to travel when it’s cheap
  4. Sleeping in
  5. Homeschool groups
  6. Not having to do school runs in the rain
  7. Not having to sit in the car line
  8. Watching my children learn
  9. Deciding what my children learn
  10. Deciding when my children learn
  11. Knowing who they play with
  12. Seeing them learn new things
  13. Seeing them struggle and then succeed
  14. Taking days off when we want
  15. Skipping problems when we want
  16. Skipping assignments when we want
  17. No uniforms
  18. School in Pajamas
  19. Knowing my kids are challenged
  20. HomeschoolNot rushing around
  21. Not having to disrupt naptime for school pick up
  22. Unlimited family time
  23. Letting my kids play
  24. Going fun places like the zoo on school days
  25. Sharing the real world on a daily basis
  26. Spending more time with Daddy
  27. Making new friends
  28. Spending more time with Grandma and Grandpa
  29. Not having to pack lunches
  30. Not having to remember to send things back to school
  31. Not arguing about having to walk to school
  32. Not having to rush in the morning
  33. Not having to rush home for school pick up in the afternoon
  34. Not having to plan our lives around the school schedule
  35. Getting to swim everyday if we want
  36. Getting school done in 1/3 the time
  37. Letting the kids study topics they are interested in
  38. Knowing we aren’t wasting time
  39. Being able to go out to breakfast

  71. No calls from the school nurse 20 minutes before school is out

  73. No wondering if the messages from your 5 year old are true or not
  74. Not having to buy special lunchbox food
  75. Not having to buy $30 tennis shoes for gym
  76. Not having clothes get ruined in art class
  77. Getting to talk to daddy during the day
  78. Getting to go to out of town events
  79. Having time to be silly together

  87. Being able to set the rules
  88. Being able to bend the rules
  89. Being able to change the rules
  90. Less arguing
  91. Less complaining
  92. Getting to spend as much time as we want or need on a task
  93. No deadlines or schedules
  94. No running forgotten items to the school
  95. No awkward parent teacher conferences
  96. Not hearing “she doesn’t want to be my friend!” or “She said I can’t come to her <make believe> birthday party!”
  97. Not having to buy $100 worth of school supplies
  98. Believing in the learning my children are doing
  99. Being 100% comfortable with where my children are spending their days
  100. Everyone Being happier!
