A Walk Away

Yesterday was a long and exhausting day.  What was supposed to be a quick check up for hubby’s car turned into a most-of-the-day ordeal.

We dropped his car a little after 8 am and they said it would be about 3 hours.  No big deal.  We all headed to a cafe across the street for breakfast then hubby headed into work with my car.

The kids and I stopped by Target for a few things then walked home (luckily we live walking distance of the car dealer).  The girls did some school while Doodle napped and before we knew it, it was lunch time and when hubby’s car was supposed to be done.

We hadn’t heard back about the car but were hungry and Honeybun had stepped on a toy and cut her foot and didn’t think she could walk but HAD to so I lured her out with lunch at a restaurant.

As we were finishing up eating, we still hadn’t heard about hubby’s car so I started harassing him to check into it, which he did.  2:30 it will be ready he told me.  2:30!  That was more than double the original time line and still over an hour away!

wpid-IMAG1525.jpgLuckily it was a gorgeous day (literally not a cloud in the sky) so we went to sit by a lake and the girls played in the dirt until the landscapers came by and started throwing grass clippings at us.  Back to Target we went, did a little birthday party shopping.

At 2:40 I walked into the dealership to see if the car was ready and they said it was but somehow it was another 25 minutes before we were driving away!

All in all, we walked 2 1/4 miles yesterday between home and the car dealer and all around.  Honeybun walked or rode her scooter the entire distance (despite her foot hurting) and Sugarplum walked a little over half and rode in the buggy the other half.

2 1/4 miles seems like a long way to walk but since living in Ireland, that’s not a terribly bad distance.  I used to walk 2 miles each way to get to see the doctor or to get to the train we took to friends’ houses.  We don’t walk that far much anymore but it’s nice to know that we can.

We regularly walk the 3/4 of a mile each way to Target or the park but I know 1 1/2 miles round trip sounds like a lot to most people and a mile each way is about my walking limit now.  I’m just glad we are close enough to easily walk. I’m glad that we are healthy enough to easily walk.  And I’m glad that we live in a place where the weather is usually nice enough to easily walk (even the sweltering heat doesn’t stop me from walking!)

So what’s your walking limit?  How far are you willing to walk to get places?
