Savannah, Georgia

Our most recent family trip was a weekend away to Savannah, Georgia. We spent over 12 hours in the road during our 2 1/2 day trip (6 hours each way without stops which are essential when you have little ones). And while the main purpose of our trip was to see friends (which we did and loved!) we did get to spend part of the last day exploring Savannah before heading home.

SONY DSCSavannah is a gorgeous Southern city oozing with charm and history. And while the Historic District is very “touristy”, it is jam-packed with little cafes, small stores and independent inns, not souvenir shops, chain restaurants and hotels as most tourist areas have.

We spent a good portion of our time wandering  the streets, meandering through the shops and enjoying the lack of hustle and bustle we’ve found most places we’ve visited. We talked to the girls about the city’s history as we walked through the squares and along the river front.

Honeybun had researched things to do in Savannah before we left so at her request we also visited the Maritime Museum which all the kids enjoyed (including hubby!). The museum houses models of ships throughout history that had links to the Port of Savannah and other famous ships like the Titanic which reminded Honeybun of our past trips (like going to the Titanic Experience in Belfast).

It was a short trip and we definitely didn’t see as much as we would have liked, but it did leave us wanting to come back and explore more!
