School Zone

As we went through the summer, thinking about our homeschool decision, we talked about it with Honeybun a lot, getting her opninion and sharing what it would be like.  When we finally made the decision to go for it, I asked her when we should get started and she said “can we start tomorrow?”  This was last Thursday so I replied “how about if we wait until Monday, that way we can get everything ready.”

I’d been thinking about how we’d make homeschool work in our home.  Where we would keep things, where we would do lessons, etc.  I decided the best place would be our dining room since it is the least used space and needed a purpose (aside from clutter collection).  I asked Honeybun if she wanted to help me get the room ready for homeschool and she exclaimed “Yeah!  We can call it the School Zone!”

And so we’ve spent the past week+ embarking on our homeschooling journey and trying to get things set up.  What looked like this at the beginning of the week:

SONY DSCSONY DSC

Has become a much more organized and usable space.  I’m sure our space and process will evolve over time as we get into things but for now, we have a basic system of organization that works.

SONY DSCI have multiple magazine files which I use to hold each girls’ current independent work as well as their completed work.

SONY DSCI have a basket to hold all of their less used supplies like crayons, markers and scissors and their more used supplies like pencils and erasers in a box where they work (currently they like to work at the tall table, not their small table).

SONY DSCI really wanted a nice desk organizers to organize the rest of my supplies but couldn’t’ find one locally so I ended up getting this really awesome dish rack which actually works perfectly for holding my planners, notebooks, future workbook and lessons as well as my markers, pencils and other teacher supplies.
