Done and Down

Well, Halloween is over and all I’m left with is an uncarved pumpkin, 2 full baskets of candy, a few awkward pictures and a pile of once wore costumes and I have to say I’m feeling a little let down.

DSC04168We had a great time with everything we DID do. The girls loved trick-or-treating and before that we had a delicious dinner with my family (pumpkin risotto with roasted autumn turkey and apple cider sauce…so good!) and hubby got one pumpkin carved into an Ernie-esque face. Plus the kids were way too cute in their array of insect costumes.

But it was all very rushed and haphazard. I wish we had taken the kids to a community event over the weekend but there weren’t any on Sunday and we didn’t have time on Saturday. And everything ended up getting pushed to the actual Halloween day due to my work schedule which leaves us with no family time on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. And then we had to wait for hubby to get home from work to do the pumpkin carving and I was late getting dinner done (as usual–I’m terrible at timing my meal preparations!).

DSC04140The way the evening went we were just sitting down to eat as the first trick-or-treaters came to our door and we didn’t get out ourselves until much later than I anticipated. I didn’t have time to make Honeybun’s antennae and was frantically searching for a tiara for her to wear and I didn’t get to dress Sugarplum myself which broke my heart since she was the cutest little ladybug ever and I worked so hard on her costume! And I didn’t get to take any pictures since I was trying to get everything ready (and I forgot to charge the battery for our good camera so we had to use our old one that takes terrible night time pictures) and I’m just left with a lot of “I wishes”.

But on a positive note, I think I might throw a toddler costume party in a few weeks to give everyone an opportunity to wear their costumes again. Anyone have ideas for non-Halloween related goodies and activities?
