A Piece of Cake

Poor Sugarplum, in 3 years, has not yet had an actual birthday cake.  Since Honeybun’s birthday is only a few weeks before, we are usually not ready for another cake so soon!  I always make their cakes rather than buying one (though I do use boxed mix and sometimes canned frosting).

Sugarplum’s first cake was a gluten free carrot cake (I do not give my kids wheat before a year).  For first birthdays I also always use white frosting only to avoid clothes getting stained when baby digs in and makes the mess that most parents are dying to see on the first birthday.

Sugarplum’s second cake was an angel food cake and she cried when I brought it out with the candles because when I asked if she was ready to do her cake she thought she was going to get to eat it.

This year I made her a marshmallow cake and she loved it!  I found some giant marshmallows that I stacked and stuck together with frosting (I used some strawberry lemonade flavor I found on clearance).  At three kids start having opinions about what kind of cake they want, what shape it should be and what colors they prefer.
