I’ve become oddly fascinated with all the silly “National” days. \u00a0Maybe it’s because I like having a reason to celebrate every day, even when I’m having a terrible day. \u00a0It also provides me with inspiration for blog posts and a lot of times dinner!<\/p>\n

Some of the days, though, make me scratch my head and say “why?!?” \u00a0Days like “National Chicken Lady Day” (tomorrow, if you want to celebrate) or November 12 which is “National Pizza with the Works except Anchovies Day.” \u00a0It seems every little thing has a day sometime during the year and every day has a reason to celebrate.<\/p>\n

And today is no exception, it’s “National Housewife’s Day.” \u00a0Usually this would be one I’d look at and say “why do moms\/wives need another day?” \u00a0But it caught my attention because ironically, today is also my birthday. \u00a0Yep, I was born on National Houswife’s Day.<\/p>\n

At first I chuckled to myself about it and then got the feeling of “it was meant to be!” \u00a0I always knew I wanted to be a mommy, from the time I was small (I played with baby dolls\u00a0way<\/em> past when most girls outgrow it!) and while I returned back to work when Honeybun was just a few weeks old, when I officially became a stay-at-home-mom just after her 1st birthday, it felt right.<\/p>\n

I’ve been home with my kids now for over six years and I can’t imagine a different life right now. \u00a0I don’t know that I’d thrive as a working mommy but that doesn’t mean being a “housewife” is easy and fun all the time.<\/p>\n

I love being home for my kids and having this time with them while they are little. \u00a0I love helping them learn and watching them grow. \u00a0I love their snuggles and questions and experiencing new things together.<\/p>\n

But being home alone with them all day isn’t all hearts and glitter. \u00a0It’s hard and isolating. \u00a0It’s exhausting and never-ending.<\/p>\n

I think National Housewife’s Day was created for the same reason as Mother’s Day: to show appreciation for someone doing a thankless job. \u00a0I don’t get paid or rewarded for all the things I do. \u00a0In fact, I hardly get any recognition at all, barely a thank you comes my way. \u00a0But I do it anyways because I enjoy taking care of my family and maybe\u00a0someday<\/em> I’ll actually be appreciated for all I do.<\/p>\n

And since I don’t see any good things coming my way for this year’s National Housewife’s Day on a Tuesday, just\u00a0maybe<\/em> my children will be extra special nice today because it’s my birthday!<\/p>\n
