\"selestial\"When we moved house recently, we brought nearly everything we owned with us. \u00a0And I mean\u00a0everything! \u00a0<\/em>But one thing that you generally can’t take with you when selling house in Florida is the appliances. \u00a0This usually isn’t a problem because every house is sold with them but we bought a new construction home and while the kitchen appliances were included in our purchase, the laundry appliances were not.<\/p>\n

No big deal, though, because that meant I got to go shopping! \u00a0While I didn’t know exactly what model of washer and dryer I wanted, I’ve known for awhile what type I wanted: a top loading high efficiency washer!<\/p>\n

While I know many moms who love their front loading washers, we had one in Dublin and I absolutely HATED it! \u00a0It’s only saving grace was that it would keep Sugarplum entertained for an entire load but otherwise I found it cumbersome to load and unload and I hated that I couldn’t add forgotten items once the cycle had started.<\/p>\n

But I didn’t want that to stop my family from receiving the benefits of the cleaning power and energy and water savings of a high efficiency so I knew the top loading high efficiency was just right for us. \u00a0We ended up scoring a great deal on a closeout model with matching high efficiency dryer (including steam dry which hubby is over the moon about!) but I have to admit that I was a little intimidated by my shiny new machines at first.<\/p>\n

Using our new machine is not as simple as our (very) old fashioned one where I simply turned on the water, dumped in some detergent, threw in some clothes, shut the top (when I remembered!) and walked away. \u00a0There are\u00a0rules<\/em> with a high efficiency washer that are what make the machines work at their best:<\/p>\n

  1. \"SONY<\/a>You can’t just throw\u00a0in the clothes, you have to arrange them in “loose heaps,” keeping the center clear which takes a bit more time than my previous dump and go method!<\/li>\n
  2. You have to put most powder and liquid detergents in the dispenser, not in the basket (though pods do go in the basket which threw us for a loop when first reading the instructions for our first load).<\/li>\n
  3. Once the cycle starts the lid does lock BUT if you need to add anything last minute, there is luckily a pause button!<\/li>\n
  4. You have to use specially marked high efficiency detergents and products.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
