She was born with a bit but it was gone within a few weeks and took forever to come back.\u00a0 She was one of those babies that was so bald everyone assumed she was a boy.\u00a0 Even when I dressed her in all pink, people still asked how old \u201che\u201d was (once she was even wearing a onesie which had \u201cI am not a boy\u201d written in pink and an elderly lady mumbled under breath after I corrected her \u201cwell, if you dress it like a boy\u2026\u201d). It wasn\u2019t until just before we moved to Dublin (perhaps preparing for the cold?) that Honeybun, at 18 months, started sprouting some actual hair.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Cockatoo-Do.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-780 alignleft\" alt=\"Cockatoo Do\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Cockatoo-Do-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Cockatoo-Do-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Cockatoo-Do-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Cockatoo-Do-333x250.jpg 333w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Cockatoo-Do.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> I assumed Sugarplum, who was born with a fuller head of hair, was going to be the same.\u00a0 Amazingly though, her hair has stuck around but stayed very short until around her 2<sup>nd<\/sup> birthday.\u00a0 Her hair mostly consisted of a tuft on the top which provided opportunities for different hair styles like the \u201ccockatoo doo\u201d and \u201cfountain\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.7;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/First-Pony1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-784 alignright\" alt=\"First Pony\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/First-Pony1-300x206.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/First-Pony1-300x206.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/First-Pony1-364x250.jpg 364w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/First-Pony1.jpg 374w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Both girls have the cutest little curls and super fine hair.\u00a0 I vividly remember the first time I got each of them into ponytails. \u00a0Honeybun\u00a0was nearly 2 when I almost got her hair into a pony and it was a few more months before I accomplished the cute double pigtails.\u00a0 Sugarplum was a few months under 2 when I got two pigtails but it took longer to get it all into 1 pony due to the way it naturally grew in.\u00a0 I remember feeling so proud after years of watching other baby girls go by with cute little pigtails to be able to subject my own little ones with the same torture!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Honeybun&#8217;s\u00a0hair has continued to grow and she now likes doing fancy things with it.\u00a0 She loves getting it braided (though most of the time I don\u2019t have the patience to deal with the fine layers) and we put it in some kind of pony every day for school.\u00a0 I always let her choose if she wants a half of full pony and whether she wants it in the middle, on the side, low, or high (what we call a \u201cPebbles pony\u201d.)<\/p>\n<p>Sugarplum, on the other hand, engages me in a daily battle just to get her hair brushed.\u00a0 Her hair has a tendency to tangle due to the cute little curls and her rambunctious sleeping habits.\u00a0 I use detangling spray (\u201couchie spray\u201d to her) but she still fights me every day.\u00a0 She also isn\u2019t as into getting her hair put up as Honeybun\u00a0is.\u00a0 She\u2019ll occasionally ask for a pony but they never last long and she ends up with crazy sticking out hair which only bothers me if we\u2019re some place nice.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re all going in for haircuts tomorrow (unless baby decides to make an appearance).\u00a0 This will be Sugarplum&#8217;s first. \u00a0Honeybun&#8217;s\u00a0first haircut was just after her 3<sup>rd<\/sup> birthday and she\u2019s only gotten it trimmed a few times since.\u00a0 I took Sugarplum last May when I had Honeybun\u00a0in but chickened out and didn\u2019t do it.\u00a0 I forgot my camera (the excuse I used) but really I wasn\u2019t ready to do it.\u00a0 I was afraid of losing all the precious curls she had acquired.\u00a0 Amazingly, her hair has grown in nicely over the past year and you would never guess it\u2019s never been cut.\u00a0 I\u2019m a little bittersweet about the upcoming event.\u00a0 I know she needs it just to even things out and trim off the thin baby ends, but I still worry about losing those cute little curls.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019ve had a strange relationship with baby hair in our family.\u00a0 First off, Honeybun\u00a0had none.\u00a0 I mean, none.
