It\u2019s a little clich\u00e9, I know.\u00a0 But after all the recent waiting for baby to arrive and disappointment as each day passes without his\/her arrival, I feel obligated.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been talking with the baby a lot the past two weeks, begging, pleading and even crying; asking baby to come snuggle in my arms rather than in my belly (and my ribs).\u00a0 But despite all the talking, we have yet to meet our sweet little thing.\u00a0 Maybe s\/he needs something in writing, something concrete.\u00a0 So here it is, a letter to my (still) unborn child:<\/p>\n
My Sweet Little Dumpling,<\/p>\n
We are ready to meet you.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019m sure from your current view point all the chaos, screaming, crying and general hysteria makes it seem like we\u2019re not prepared but I promise, we have a place for you.\u00a0 And I\u2019m not just talking physical space.\u00a0 Of course we have a bed for you (two actually) and all the stuff a tiny little baby could ever want, but we also all have a place waiting for you in our hearts.\u00a0 We\u2019ve painted, decorated, moved furniture and put things away, but most importantly we\u2019ve rearranged our hearts to make room for you.\u00a0 Right now there\u2019s a little piece of my soul sitting empty, waiting for you to come fill it up and make things feel complete.<\/p>\n
Your sisters are so eager to meet you. They ask about you, love on my belly and do things just for you.\u00a0 They want you to be happy.\u00a0 They are dreaming about all you will be and look forward to all the things they want to do with you.\u00a0 They are counting the seconds until they can show you their world and make you a permanent part of theirs.\u00a0 They long to see you, touch you, hear you, know that you are real.\u00a0 They love you already, more than you or they will ever be able to express.<\/p>\n
Daddy longs to feel you wiggle in his arms as I\u2019ve felt you so many months in my belly.\u00a0 We both want to look into your sweet little face and dream about who you may one day become.\u00a0 We want to get to know the tiny little person that you are, face to face, and give you the world if we can.\u00a0 You are already a part of this family\u2019s soul but we are ready for you to be a part of its physical existence too.<\/p>\n
I know you\u2019ll come to us when you\u2019re ready but I really hope it\u2019s soon.\u00a0 Waiting for you is like a young child waiting for Christmas.\u00a0 Time seems to stand still and the days drag on and on while I dream of the moment I can kiss your forehead, stroke your tiny little fingers, and put you in that special little place in my heart when I will keep you and love you forever.<\/p>\n
