\"pb<\/a>We aren’t huge zoo goers when we travel, mostly because I feel like it’s something we can do anywhere and so we don’t spend time on the zoo unless there isn’t much else to do. \u00a0But that doens’t mean we haven’t been to many zoos, in fact we’ve been to zoos all over the world including in Dublin<\/a>, Amsterdam<\/a>, Budapest<\/a>, Hamburg<\/a>, London<\/a>, Naples <\/a>(Florida) and\u00a0Oklahoma City<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Our first zoo visit, though, and the only zoo we’ve visited twice is the one nearest to us: The Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society. \u00a0We took Honeybun for the first time just before she turned one and the kids and I were recently invited back to experience some of the zoo’s new and special experiences.<\/p>\n

I remember clearly our first visit to the zoo with Honeybun. \u00a0It is small and doesn’t have a lot of the bigger animals like the elephants and giraffes but still has over 800 animals to visit. \u00a0It was the perfect size for her and she spent our entire visit running from animal to animal checking everyone out and climbing wherever she could.<\/p>\n

\"SONY<\/a>In the past almost six years, the zoo hasn’t changed much but zoo hasn’t changed much. \u00a0The layout is the same, the animals are the same but one big change I noticed was their focus on the environment. \u00a0Everything the Palm Beach Zoo does from not having straws and lids to serving their own (delicious!) blend of bird friendly coffee to having clearly marked trash and recycling centers focuses on keeping the zoo and the world healthy and clean. \u00a0Their mission says it all:<\/p>\n

The Zoological Society of the Palm Beaches, Inc. (Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society) exists to inspire people to act on behalf of wildlife and the natural world.<\/p>\n

We advance our conservation mission through endangered species propagation, education and support of conservation initiatives in the field.<\/p>\n

As special visitors of the zoo we were able to ride the Carousel (Doodle’s first time!) as well as the new Safari Train. \u00a0We also got to see the Malayan tigers released into their beautiful new habit for the very first time.<\/p>\n

But the highlight of our visit was definitely getting help feed the animals. \u00a0Not only did we get to feed the flamingos, ducks and swans but we were also able to go into the Aldabra Tortoise Experience and feed the giant tortoises (one of the zoo’s special feeding programs). \u00a0(NOTE: \u00a0All the above listed activities have an additional cost above that of the zoo admission).<\/p>\n
