{"id":6570,"date":"2014-11-24T08:07:44","date_gmt":"2014-11-24T13:07:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/?p=6570"},"modified":"2014-11-24T08:07:44","modified_gmt":"2014-11-24T13:07:44","slug":"thanksgiving-matters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/2014\/11\/24\/thanksgiving-matters\/","title":{"rendered":"Thanksgiving Matters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My distress over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/2014\/11\/12\/thinking-thanksgiving\/\">loss of Thanksgiving<\/a> goes much beyond decorations. \u00a0I want to decorate my house for Thanksgiving because Thanksgiving is important to me and my family and I want it to be important to my children.<\/p>\n<p>Why does Thanksgiving mean so much in the myriad of other holidays we celebrate each year? \u00a0Because, despite it&#8217;s name, it&#8217;s the only non-giving holiday. \u00a0Or I should say non-receiving holiday.<\/p>\n<p>Christmas has become about the presents. \u00a0Halloween and Valentine&#8217;s Day about the candy. \u00a0Even Easter seems to now center around the Easter Bunny and Easter baskets. \u00a0Thanksgiving is the only big holiday left that focuses simply on family and love. \u00a0(Though Black Friday seems to be taking center stage as shopping begins earlier and earlier each year).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/DSC02286-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2075\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/DSC02286-2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"DSC02286 (2)\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/DSC02286-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/DSC02286-2-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/DSC02286-2-333x250.jpg 333w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/DSC02286-2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/DSC02286-2-390x293.jpg 390w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/DSC02286-2.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Thanksgiving is about being thankful for all we have, not asking for more. \u00a0It&#8217;s about celebrating America&#8217;s start and the people who came here long ago to enjoy their freedom and who blazed the road for us to have ours.<\/p>\n<p>According to research my sister and I have done, we have traced back our line to ancestors who arrived in Plymouth\u00a0on the Mayflower and I&#8217;m really proud of that and want my children to be as well. \u00a0I want my children to spend Thursday being thankful for what they have and\u00a0excited to see their family and spend time with them. \u00a0I want them to spend the day playing and celebrating and helping me cook our feast. \u00a0I want to celebrate what we have and who we have to love.<\/p>\n<p>Once Thanksgiving is over, the hustle and bustle of Christmas time will hit full force and it will be here before any of us are ready. \u00a0So what&#8217;s the rush? \u00a0I, for one, am going to enjoy the last little bit of Thanksgiving that is left!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My distress over the loss of Thanksgiving goes much beyond decorations. \u00a0I want to decorate my house for Thanksgiving because Thanksgiving is important to me and my family and I want it to be important to my children.
