So it\u2019s no secret my mommying experience is thus far limited to girls.\u00a0 With the impending birth of baby #3 (and my feeling it\u2019s a boy\u2026the \u201che\u201d slip ups have been happening for weeks) comes an ever growing feel of terror.\u00a0 What exactly do I DO with a boy?\u00a0 I mean, I know boys shouldn\u2019t be treated differently than girls BUT there are some instances where they have to be.<\/p>\n
For instance, with the umbilical cord I was a \u201cif it looks ok, leave it alone\u201d type mommy.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t excessively clean it (usually only at bath time) all I really did was keep it dry and keep things from rubbing on it.\u00a0 Does that work for tiny little boy parts too?<\/p>\n
And speaking of tiny little boy parts, hubby and I still haven\u2019t decided which way we want to go on circumcision.\u00a0 He is \u201cleaning\u201d towards doing it and I\u2019m \u201cleaning\u201d away from doing it but neither of us has taken a solid stand yet. Even though we\u2019ve never known the gender of our children before their birthday, we\u2019ve still never made the decision. With Honeybun\u00a0we didn\u2019t even really discuss it, I guess we figured we\u2019d decide when we needed to.\u00a0 With Sugarplum I was told at my 38 \u00bd week appointment that if we wanted to have the baby circumcised we\u2019d have to pay for it before we went to the hospital (even though we didn\u2019t even know what we were having).\u00a0 Well, my water broke 2 days later and we still hadn\u2019t decided, nor obviously paid for it and luckily we didn\u2019t have to worry about it.<\/p>\n
This time if I deliver the baby at home as I\u2019m planning we won\u2019t be able to have it done right away and will have to visit a pediatric surgeon later on.\u00a0 This is part of my \u201cleaning away\u201d mentality.\u00a0 Can\u2019t we just wait and see how it goes?\u00a0 Plus I\u2019m a little bit in the \u201cwhy provide unnecessary physical harm and discomfort to your newborn?\u201d boat.<\/p>\n
I also know that circumcision is not routine in many parts of the world, including Europe.\u00a0 It is not routinely done in Ireland (or really at all without a religious or medical reason) and I\u2019ve had friends who had to go out of their way to get it done for their sons there.\u00a0 If most of the other modern cultures don\u2019t do it, why should I?<\/p>\n
