<\/strong>If you\u2019re a regular reader, you\u2019re surely aware of my struggle over the past few months of picking a path in life (the orginal post can be read here <\/a>and the more recent follow-up here<\/a>).\u00a0 Well, it\u2019s done.\u00a0 I struggled, I pondered, I cried, I debated, I worried and I made a decision.\u00a0 The path is not yet defined, I don\u2019t know where I will end up but still, it\u2019s done.<\/p>\n

As I struggled,\u00a0I found myself thinking a lot about the phrase \u201cit\u2019s not what you know, it\u2019s who you know.\u201d\u00a0 The idea that one\u2019s skills and talent can be secondary to knowing the right people has been weighing on my heart.\u00a0 Often this phrase is thrown around when talking about getting ahead in the world but it has different meaning to me.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019m not trying to \u201cget ahead\u201d because truthfully, I don\u2019t even know who I\u2019d be trying to get ahead of.\u00a0 I don\u2019t even really know where I\u2019m trying to go so how can I possibly get there ahead of anyone else?<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not what you know, it\u2019s who you know,\u201d means that it doesn\u2019t matter what my background is, my education, my experience, my talent.\u00a0 It all means nothing if I\u2019m not surrounded by the right people.\u00a0 I realized that being MY best is contingent on the people around me being like-minded.\u00a0 And I see now that times I\u2019ve tried to run away in the past were for the same reason.<\/p>\n

\"0204141343\"<\/a>I see that I can only be successful if I am surrounded and supported by people who value me and my talents and abilities.\u00a0 People who lift me up and encourage me when I struggle or fail and people who celebrate and appreciate my accomplishments and victories.\u00a0 I need to be pushed to be my best.\u00a0 Just being okay is not okay.<\/p>\n

Making the decision was hard for me because I worried about giving up what I had and not having anything to replace it with.\u00a0 I worried about being left with nothing.\u00a0 But a while ago I came to know in my heart what the right decision was and while it wasn\u2019t easy to make and finally put it out into the universe, I feel amazingly optimistic.<\/p>\n

Instead of feeling empty and lost, I feel ready, open and available for whatever great opportunity may come my way in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
