{"id":483,"date":"2013-03-12T08:55:55","date_gmt":"2013-03-12T12:55:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/?p=483"},"modified":"2016-01-18T21:08:33","modified_gmt":"2016-01-19T02:08:33","slug":"child-watching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/2013\/03\/12\/child-watching\/","title":{"rendered":"Child Watching"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is this funny rule about watching children:\u00a0 The more adults there are around, the less children get watched.\u00a0 Hubby and I learned this lesson for the first time on Honeybun&#8217;s\u00a02<sup>nd<\/sup> birthday when we took her to the aquarium.\u00a0 We had hubby\u2019s parents with us and while perusing the gift shop we lost track of Honeybun.\u00a0 I thought she was with Grandma, Grandma thought she was with someone else and so forth.\u00a0 Turns out she was with no one and had wondered out the open front door to the street.\u00a0 Luckily it was a fairly quite Irish town and she hadn\u2019t gotten too far.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m very conscientious about knowing where my children are at all times when I\u2019m home alone with them.\u00a0 Now that they\u2019re older, I\u2019m not always in the same room with them but I can almost always hear them no matter where we are in the house and if I can\u2019t hear them or have lost track of where they are, I enquire about their doings. \u00a0Honeybun\u00a0is learning that I just like to know where she is and that she is safe so usually quickly responds to my calls.\u00a0 (Another rule about watching children:\u00a0 if they\u2019re quiet, they\u2019re probably doing something they shouldn\u2019t be!)<\/p>\n<p>Most of the really major trouble my children get into occurs when family is over and I wander off to do something I don\u2019t usually have time for.\u00a0 I assume the other responsible adults are actually watching my children and a lot of times they aren\u2019t.\u00a0 The assumption is always that someone else is watching the children.\u00a0 I am by far no exception to this; I assume if I\u2019m not in the room then the other adults are watching my kids and often don\u2019t even think about them until I realize no one is with them and when I inquire none of the adults know where they are or what they are doing.<\/p>\n<p>Mommying is definitely a learning experience and I\u2019m slowly learning new lessons too.\u00a0 The one I need to work on the most, especially when baby #3 comes and we\u2019ll have lots of family around, is making sure someone is \u201cassigned\u201d to watching the girls.\u00a0 I don\u2019t need any more walls, floors or posters covered in crayon, pen or pencil!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is this funny rule about watching children:\u00a0 The more adults there are around, the less children get watched.\u00a0 Hubby and I learned this lesson for the first time on Honeybun&#8217;s\u00a02nd birthday when we took her to the aquarium.\u00a0 We had hubby\u2019s parents with us and while perusing the gift shop we lost track of [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13,9,15],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-483","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-a-mommys-life","category-family-life","category-family-ties"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/483","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=483"}],"version-history":[{"count":6,"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/483\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":10057,"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/483\/revisions\/10057"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=483"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=483"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=483"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
