This morning we dropped Honeybun off at kindergarten for the last time.\u00a0 It was a stark difference from just 10 months ago when we dropped her for her first day<\/a>.\u00a0 Our little girl who timidly walked into her classroom and meekly smiled at her peers confidently rode into the school this morning (without training wheels even!) excitedly shouting good morning to friends as she embarked on the end of her kindergarten journey.<\/p>\n

It was a bittersweet moment (a word Honeybun learned the true meaning of two weeks ago when her original teacher returned and she had to say good-bye to the substitute she\u2019d had since Thanksgiving.) and while I didn\u2019t cry as\u00a0I did that first day<\/a>, as we walked away from the school, I did swell up for reasons I can\u2019t explain.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been one heck of a year.\u00a0 From struggling to get her placed<\/a> before school even started to learning of her beloved teacher\u2019s impending maternity leave<\/a>, sending her daily without the \u201crequired\u201d uniform<\/a> (I\u2019m pretty sure she was the only child not wearing it though the staff had their own standards<\/a>), struggling through the constant (and often ridiculous<\/a>) homework<\/a>, and dealing with injustices<\/a>\u00a0and a tough schedule<\/a>, it has been quite a ride.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m still unsure where first grade will take us.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know whether we will return to the same school, switch or embark on a homeschooling <\/a>journey, but I can say I\u2019m glad we did kindergarten at our neighborhood school.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve all learned so much and she has grown in ways I couldn\u2019t have even imagined.\u00a0 She stands taller, both in physical stature and confidence.\u00a0 We\u2019ve all gained friends that I\u2019m sure will apart of our lives long into the future.\u00a0 And my little girl, only five years old, who almost got moved out of the high achieving class because she wasn\u2019t a \u201cgood\u201d reader is now anxiously awaiting grandma to arrive next week with the first chapter books that we will read together (I picked the Kirsten books of the American Girl series, a childhood favorite of mine as well as a nod to my sweet little blondie\u2019s Scandinavian roots).<\/p>\n

But I still really\u00a0look forward to summer<\/a> and hope that it meets all my expectations (though my \u201cdream\u201d<\/a> may be a little overly optimistic).\u00a0 While school has benefited Honeybun in many ways, it has created struggles for us and I look forward to spending time together and reclaiming our family!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
