{"id":4225,"date":"2014-05-06T08:05:34","date_gmt":"2014-05-06T12:05:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/?p=4225"},"modified":"2014-05-06T08:05:34","modified_gmt":"2014-05-06T12:05:34","slug":"dead-sea-region-israel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/2014\/05\/06\/dead-sea-region-israel\/","title":{"rendered":"Dead Sea Region, Israel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When Honeybun was 3 and Sugarplum was 15 months, we took our second cruise, a Holy Land Experience.\u00a0 The ship sailed from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/05\/istanbul-turkey\/\">Instanbul<\/a> and visited Israel, Athens and Kusadasi, Turkey.\u00a0 We took the trip with my parents and sister and it was an amazing experience!<\/p>\n<p>We spent a total of 3 days in Israel, docked in Haifa which is north of Tel Aviv. \u00a0We were originally scheduled to spend the last two days docked in Ashdod, near Jerusalem but due to a missile being fired and unknown conditions, we stayed docked in Haifa and had to do all of our journeys and visiting from there.<\/p>\n<p>After a day exploring the Sea of Galilee area and a day exploring the streets of Jerusalem, the third day was a relaxing one.\u00a0 We drove through the West Bank to get to the Dead Sea.\u00a0 While I\u2019m never one to turn down adventures, I was a bit nervous being in such a volatile area with my children, but we were with a great local tour guide and had no problems, even when we got stopped at a checkpoint and had to have our passports thoroughly checked over!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-17.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-4234\" alt=\"download (17)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-17-300x218.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-17-300x218.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-17-344x250.jpg 344w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-17.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a>Swimming in the Dead Sea was one of the most amazing and wonderful experiences of all our travels.\u00a0 Not only the lowest land point on Earth at its banks, it\u2019s also the deepest salt lake in the world and one of the saltiest.\u00a0 Swimming in the Dead Sea was like no other experience I\u2019ve had before.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"text-decoration: none; font-size: 13px;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-4229 alignright\" alt=\"download (8)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-8-300x218.jpg\" width=\"180\" height=\"131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-8-300x218.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-8-344x250.jpg 344w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-8.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The concentration of salt allows you to effortlessly float on top of the water and the mud of the Dead Sea is known for its high mineral content and is used in many cosmetics.\u00a0 After swimming in the sea and soaking in the mud, our skin was so soft and refreshed! (you can with some Dead Sea Clay soap from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sugarandoats.com\/\">Sugar and Oats<\/a> in my current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/giveaways\/baby-gift-basket-may-2014\/\">May Baby Giveaway<\/a>!)<\/p>\n<p>Even the girls had a great time.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t let Sugarplum get in too far as we didn\u2019t want the salty water getting in her face but she loved walking around and even Honeybun who insisted she was not going to go in too far did eventually decide to try to float (then panicked and didn\u2019t want to do it!)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-4227 alignnone\" alt=\"download (6)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-6-300x218.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-6-300x218.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-6-344x250.jpg 344w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-6.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-71.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4241\" alt=\"download (7)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/download-71.jpg\" width=\"218\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After swimming, showering (you have to rinse off after, the salt leaves quite a residue!) and changing, we had a delicious lunch overlooking the sea.\u00a0 It was a beautiful day and we loved trying the smorgasbord of local food our guide recommended (though I had to explain what a smorgasbord was!)<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"text-decoration: none;
