{"id":330,"date":"2013-02-24T07:25:59","date_gmt":"2013-02-24T12:25:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/?p=330"},"modified":"2016-01-18T21:09:40","modified_gmt":"2016-01-19T02:09:40","slug":"baby-balancing-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/24\/baby-balancing-act\/","title":{"rendered":"Baby Balancing Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Anything that requires balance from riding a bike to surfing to dancing can be affected by any weight or size changes in your body.\u00a0 Pregnancy obviously causes both weight and size changes.\u00a0 This change is constant and one must continually adapt as their center of gravity changes.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve found that each time I enter the dances studio, my balance is different.\u00a0 Some days I\u2019m really on balance and can easily turn and other days I can\u2019t stand on one leg to save my life.\u00a0 I\u2019ve discovered that while my body is changing and my abs are long gone (I complained about this very issue back around week 13\u202616 weeks later and there\u2019s no hope!) if I continue thinking about my alignment and posture the same way I always have, it works.\u00a0 I focus on my hips being lifted and straight and my ribs being stacked on top (I\u2019ve always used this visualization of the bottom of my ribs being rubber banded to the top of my hips).\u00a0 The only adjustment I\u2019ve naturally made to compensate for my forward protruding belly is to put my arms farther back when overhead.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday was a fantastic balancing day.\u00a0 I was able to easily hold 2-footed balances and even effortlessly held a few balances in pass\u00e9 (that classical ballerina pose when you make a #4 by putting your toe to the opposite knee) which I\u2019ve only easily done once other time since starting back to class in July (before I was even pregnant).\u00a0 But again, that constantly changing center of gravity.\u00a0 During one long pass\u00e9 balance, just as I got control of the balance, baby decided s\/he was not comfortable and shifted his\/her weight, knocking me over (which wasn\u2019t a terribly bad thing since I was supposed to be in 2<sup>nd<\/sup> position anyways\u2026have I mentioned the beauties of baby brain?)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Anything that requires balance from riding a bike to surfing to dancing can be affected by any weight or size changes in your body.\u00a0 Pregnancy obviously causes both weight and size changes.\u00a0 This change is constant and one must continually adapt as their center of gravity changes.
