{"id":2805,"date":"2014-01-13T07:55:44","date_gmt":"2014-01-13T12:55:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/?p=2805"},"modified":"2014-01-13T07:57:38","modified_gmt":"2014-01-13T12:57:38","slug":"no-shame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/2014\/01\/13\/no-shame\/","title":{"rendered":"No Shame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC00434.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2806 aligncenter\" alt=\"SONY DSC\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC00434-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC00434-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC00434-600x399.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC00434-376x250.jpg 376w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC00434-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC00434-390x259.jpg 390w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Something happens when you become a mom: All of a sudden you no longer care about what others think of you.\u00a0 In a way, you become shameless.<\/p>\n<p>In actuality, it starts before you\u2019re really even a mommy, when you\u2019re pregnant.\u00a0 You go in for your monthly (then bi-monthly then weekly then sometimes daily!) appointments and there are no secrets.\u00a0 You pee in a cup.\u00a0 You get weighed (and not always in private place).\u00a0 You get asked about everything:\u00a0 How do you feel?\u00a0 What are you eating?\u00a0 Are you exercising?\u00a0 How are you sleeping?\u00a0 Sex?\u00a0 How\u2019s your discharge?<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the pregnancy check-ups have NOTHING on the birthing process.\u00a0 You\u2019re poked at, prodded at.\u00a0 Your every move is being watched, documented, recorded.\u00a0 How much and what you drink.\u00a0 You have company in the bathroom.\u00a0 How much and when are you peeing?\u00a0 Any diarrhea?\u00a0 Temperature checks, blood pressure checks, fetal monitoring.\u00a0 How are the contractions, on a scale from 1-10?\u00a0 Do you need anything to help the pain?\u00a0 Hours upon hours of people all up in your business &#8211;literally!\u00a0 (Think a c-section is better?\u00a0 I\u2019m pretty sure having your insides splayed out for the world to see is no different!)<\/p>\n<p>And for some of us it continues.\u00a0 When baby is hungry, s\/he doesn\u2019t care where you are or what you\u2019re doing they want food and the want it NOW!\u00a0 And if baby\u2019s food comes served in a boob, be ready to pull it out on command.\u00a0 Even when covering to feed, there is a sense of exposure knowing at any moment the blanket could fall, your cover could blow off or your baby could splay an arm in an impromptu game of \u201cI see you!\u201d (and at that moment so will everyone else!)<\/p>\n<p>Then there\u2019s the poop everywhere, the spit up, the food flying around and any embarrassment you may feel about having ill-behaved children quickly fades.\u00a0 You might freak out in the middle of the produce department or break down crying in the newborn clothes section.\u00a0\u00a0 You find yourself having out-of-body moments where you don\u2019t care who is watching or what they think.<\/p>\n<p>As a mommy you lose all your inhibitions.\u00a0 You become immodest and yes, even shameless.\u00a0 Maybe it\u2019s because you\u2019re so tired or because you don&#8217;t have time or energy to worry about it. \u00a0Maybe it&#8217;s because you are constantly having to adjust to a ever-changing you as your body changes, you&#8217;re forced to adjust your expectations and try to be the best you can be. \u00a0Maybe it\u2019s because of all you\u2019ve been through to get to this mommying moment.<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe it\u2019s because in that moment (in every moment, really) all that matters is your children and while your grocery store flip-outs may not be your proudest moments in reality they happen because you care about who your children become.\u00a0 You don\u2019t want your children to become entitled, selfish people.\u00a0 You want them to know right from wrong and to understand the bigger picture of the world.\u00a0 And hopefully you are able to lead by example and have the courage to take ownership of your misbehaviors by apologizing for when you behave badly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Something happens when you become a mom: All of a sudden you no longer care about what others think of you.\u00a0 In a way, you become shameless.
