{"id":1344,"date":"2013-08-25T15:17:24","date_gmt":"2013-08-25T19:17:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/?p=1344"},"modified":"2013-11-22T16:05:40","modified_gmt":"2013-11-22T21:05:40","slug":"uncovered-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/25\/uncovered-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Uncovered Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Doodle is probably the most social baby I\u2019ve ever known.\u00a0 On our flight to Colorado a few weeks ago, he was smiling, talking and desperately trying to get the attention of the business man sitting next to us and will flash his giant grin for anyone who talks to him.\u00a0 And this desire for interaction does not go away when he feeds.\u00a0 He often grunts to get my attention if I\u2019m not looking at him and tries his best to look around as he feeds (he hasn\u2019t figured out yet that his food supply is attached to his mommy and can\u2019t move around with his head as he wishes).<\/p>\n<p>I once read a statement that has stuck with me as a nursing mom, it said something to the effect of: If my breastfeeding bothers you, why don\u2019t you put a blanket over YOUR head.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1345 alignright\" alt=\"SONY DSC\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC08851-199x300.jpg\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC08851-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC08851-300x451.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC08851-600x903.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC08851-166x250.jpg 166w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC08851-680x1024.jpg 680w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC08851-390x587.jpg 390w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC08851.jpg 1008w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I have a ring sling I made when I was pregnant with Honeybun\u00a0and I\u2019ve used it with all 3 kids.\u00a0 I love it because it\u2019s comfy for carrying my babies close but it\u2019s also great for nursing because I can use it to completely cover and it also helps support their weight so I can walk around while feeding and usually even have one hand free for doing whatever I need to do.<\/p>\n<p>With Honeybun\u00a0I always covered while nursing in public, ALWAYS, even when at friends\u2019 houses or anytime someone outside my family was around.\u00a0 With Sugarplum I became more relaxed and only covered in public places when I couldn\u2019t find a corner to face.\u00a0 She hated to be covered up so by the end of our nursing relationship I had decided to cover me with a small blanket or burp rag up to her nose, leaving her eyes out so she could still look around.<\/p>\n<p>I still use my sling to nurse Doodle when out but really only to help support his weight since I don\u2019t usually have access to a pillow or anything to put underneath him and he\u2019s not yet big enough to sit on my lap and reach my breast. He doesn\u2019t usually mind being covered but I\u2019ve started minding having us both all covered up.\u00a0 First off, Doodle takes after hubby and is an extreme hot body, a few minutes in the sling and he is a sweaty mess and I am too!\u00a0 I\u2019ve also become tired of obsessing over whether or not we\u2019re covered and constantly having to pull up the sling to cover, it\u2019s not like you can see anything anyways.\u00a0 Doodle has a huge head, remember?\u00a0 He covers all the \u201cprivate\u201d parts and most of the rest too (besides, there are women walking around with more hanging out than I am when nursing and no one cares about them!)<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve also become a little driven by a \u201cscrew you society\u201d mentality.\u00a0 I\u2019m tired of being judged when I\u2019m out in public with my children.\u00a0 Judged when I\u2019m feeding my infant, judged when my kids are \u201ctoo loud,\u201d judged when they\u2019re \u201ctoo rowdy,\u201d judged when they cry, judged when my buggy is in the way, judged for simply taking my children out of the house.
