{"id":1320,"date":"2013-08-19T14:46:58","date_gmt":"2013-08-19T18:46:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/?p=1320"},"modified":"2016-01-18T20:59:27","modified_gmt":"2016-01-19T01:59:27","slug":"the-first-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/19\/the-first-day\/","title":{"rendered":"The First Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The day finally came that I\u2019ve been dreading:\u00a0 Kindergarten.\u00a0 We dropped Honeybun\u00a0off this morning for her first day (and were nearly late).\u00a0 The teacher showed her the morning routine of putting her folder in the basket (with the papers I forgot to fill out still in it), her backpack and lunch box in her cubby and taking her seat.<\/p>\n<p>As we left the teacher handed us an poem and instructed us not to read it until the end of the hallway as it might make us cry.\u00a0 Well, I did tear up reading the sweet poem:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC096521.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1322 aligncenter\" alt=\"SONY DSC\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC096521-199x300.jpg\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC096521-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC096521-300x452.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC096521-600x903.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC096521-166x250.jpg 166w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC096521-680x1024.jpg 680w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC096521-390x587.jpg 390w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/DSC096521.jpg 1520w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0After reading this, and fighting back the tears (because I didn\u2019t want to be THAT mommy), everything suddenly made sense.\u00a0 All the obsessing I\u2019ve been doing over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/04\/off-to-a-rocky-start\/\">class placement<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/2013\/04\/01\/a-uniformed-education\/\">uniforms <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/12\/supplied-for-school\/\">supply shopping<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/28\/boxed-lunch\/\">sack lunches<\/a> (which the past few weeks has become my main worry) hasn\u2019t really been about any of that.\u00a0 What really worries me is giving up control of her character and moral development and entrusting that to a stranger.\u00a0 I\u2019m worried about the influence of the other children and whether or not the teacher and school will reinforce what we believe in as a family.
