{"id":1281,"date":"2013-08-08T09:43:13","date_gmt":"2013-08-08T13:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/?p=1281"},"modified":"2013-11-22T16:34:38","modified_gmt":"2013-11-22T21:34:38","slug":"cost-of-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/2013\/08\/08\/cost-of-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Cost of Care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.7;\">Since returning to Florida over a year ago, I&#8217;ve gone through a few job interviews and despite getting a few offers, I&#8217;ve yet to take a full-time job. \u00a0While being away from my children is a big deciding factor, the main reason I&#8217;ve not accepted a position yet is because I&#8217;ve not yet been offered a job where the pay would cover the cost of my time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The two full-time jobs I&#8217;ve been offered were both childcare teaching positions, paying no more than $10 per hour. \u00a0Here&#8217;s the mathematical problem:<\/p>\n<p>Pay rate: \u00a0$10\/hr x 8 hrs= $80\/day;\u00a0$80\/day x 5 days = $400\/week<\/p>\n<p>Cost of Child care: \u00a0$120\/week\/child x 2 children = $240\/week<\/p>\n<p>Actual take home: $400 &#8211; $240 = $160\/week<\/p>\n<p>$160\/week\u00a0\u00f7 5 days = $32\/day \u00f7 8 hours = $4\/hr<\/p>\n<p>So essentially I\u2019d be earning $4 per hour, that\u2019s less than $8,500 per YEAR and that\u2019s before taxes, other deductions, gas and other expense (like formula if I&#8217;m unable to maintain my milk supply through pumping). \u00a0That figure is also based on maximum pay and minimum childcare costs (notice I only included 2 children, having to do aftercare for Honeybun\u00a0in the afternoon would eat even more into my take home pay). \u00a0While I realize that amount of money can make a huge difference in the lives of many families, I am\u00a0fortunate that my family is able to survive without the TINY bit extra and that I am able to continue staying home with my children.<\/p>\n<p>Hubby and I have decided the stress caused by my being out of the house 40+ hours a week is not worth my earning $4 (or less) an hour. \u00a0I am fortunate to be able to work teaching dance a few hours a week at a much higher hourly rate and by teaching at night (as I will be in the fall), childcare costs become negligible as hubby will be home to watch the kids.<\/p>\n<p>While I sometimes wish I had a more substantial job outside the home, I am one of those mommys that doesn&#8217;t want someone else raising my children. \u00a0I want to make sure my children are being taught our families morals and beliefs and not those of other families or a larger establishment. \u00a0I want to shape who my children become and while a little extra money would be nice, dealing with the\u00a0repercussions\u00a0of full time care is not worth the extra I&#8217;d be able to earn right now.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since returning to Florida over a year ago, I&#8217;ve gone through a few job interviews and despite getting a few offers, I&#8217;ve yet to take a full-time job. \u00a0While being away from my children is a big deciding factor, the main reason I&#8217;ve not accepted a position yet is because I&#8217;ve not yet been offered [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13,8,17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1281","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-a-mommys-life","category-baby-business","category-work-it-out"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1281","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1281"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1281\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2017,"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1281\/revisions\/2017"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1281"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1281"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1281"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
