I’m hoping my days of regularly waking up with a baby in the middle of the night are behind me and I can settle into a routine of long nights of decent sleep to help me get through our long and busy days.

And while some mornings Pipsqueak will sleep until 7:00 or even 8:00 (it happened once, it really did!), more often than not lately his morning wake-up cries have me up closer to 6:00 (5:38 this morning). Each early morning I debate: try to nurse him back to sleep or get up with him? I always choose to get up.

It’s not that I like being up at 5:30 in the morning or I like Doodle being woken up by 6:00 or 6:30 is that I don’t want to get in the habit of night-time feedings again. Just like I did with Doodle, I want him to learn that when he wakes up it’s time to get up and if he’s still tired he needs to go back to sleep. My hope is that, like Doodle, he will eventually get the idea and start (or go back to) sleeping until a more reasonable time in the morning.

This method makes my days incredibly long right now but I’m hoping it will result in the same long-term gain it did with Doodle. As the saying goes: This, too, Shall Pass.

And I know for certain it will because just a short time ago, I was writing about the night-waking (screaming, really) and the reality it presented:

…at 1 am, thinking of my boy growing and becoming more independent is a glorious thought but by morning, the thought has soured.

Because while I while know that this stage of night-waking and screaming in frustration will one day be over, I also know that every other stage of my children’s development will someday come to an end, too, as they continue to grow, change and ascend to new heights…

Read more on Mamalode.

Pipsqueak has generally been sleeping through the night solidly for quite a while now (other than a few midnight wake-up calls during our recent trip to Massachusetts) and I’m not complaining!
