We all have our list of \u201cnevers\u201d, things we\u2019d probably never do.\u00a0 Mine includes driving 2 hours each way with a newborn for an event that only lasts a few hours.\u00a0 No matter the event or the people involved, it just doesn\u2019t sound like something I would like to do.<\/p>\n
But then I got an invite for a baby shower for one of my dear friends from Dublin who I haven\u2019t seen since we left over a year ago.\u00a0 At first I didn\u2019t think I was going to go, the shower was all the way on the other side of Florida, a nearly 2 hour drive, and I have an 11 week old that isn\u2019t ready to be left home all day.\u00a0 Then I thought about my friend and how much I miss her and how excited I am that she will soon be expecting her first little squishy and I decided I could not pass up to opportunity to see her since there is no telling when our paths may cross again.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve only done one long car drive by myself with my children before.\u00a0 In October I drove back from Orlando with the girls by myself but that was only one hour and just under 3 hours. I\u2019ve also flown many times by myself with the girls but flying is very different from driving where you can\u2019t entertain them, can\u2019t take them out of their seats, can\u2019t easily pass them snacks or drinks.\u00a0 \u00a0So yesterday was my official first mommy-alone road trip.<\/p>\n
Even though the drive is just under 2 hours so making it all the way between feeds should have been easily achieved.\u00a0 But to get across the state we take a road known as \u201cAlligator Alley\u201d which goes right through the basically uninhabited Florida Everglades with no services for over 50 miles.\u00a0 I was worried if Doodle woke up early we would both be a mess before we got back to civilization.<\/p>\n
Luckily, baby boy slept all the way there and all the way back.\u00a0 While I don\u2019t like driving long distances and especially don\u2019t like doing it by myself, it\u2019s comforting to know we can and that it\u2019s not too stressful for any of us.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
