Not everything I write is a good fit for Beyond Mommying and so I’ve been working really hard this year to find new audiences for my stories. I’ve been submitting my pieces different places and have been really lucky to have quite a few selected for publication by other sources. And it just so happens that 3 of those pieces were published in the past week! They’re also some of my most favorite pieces I’ve ever written for very different reasons:

I’m really excited to have my first piece up on Sammiches and Psych Meds right now. The piece which I’ve spent almost a year working on: writing, editing, submitting, rewriting, submitting again…finally found a home where it’s being read, respected and getting a great response on Facebook. The article stems from my years as a preschool teacher turned mommy and now homeschooler:

as I get more involved in our local homeschooling community, I’ve started to see the trend of “preschool is important” trickling even through this alternative world. And everywhere I turn now, I seem to find parents proclaiming to be homeschooling their young children.

But let’s get one thing straight:

YOU ARE NOT HOMESCHOOLING YOUR THREE-YEAR-OLD.

Read more of “Stop Saying You’re Homeschooling Your Preschooler.”

I’m also published again on Mamalode. Much like my “I am That Mom” post from a few weeks ago, this was written in a moment of mommy weakness and distress. I let it sit in my drafts folder for months, unsure of what to do with it until I saw Mamlode’s theme for this month: you are not alone. I instantly knew this was the right place for my piece, polished it up and submitted it that same day. The day described in this piece forever changed me.

I glanced down at the little boy in my arms. There was a large tear sitting on his tiny cheek just below his adoring gaze. That was when I lost it.

This tiny baby had spent the past week listening to me yell, scream and lose my mind as I tried to maintain control of our little family that was falling apart. Tears began streaming down my face and I looked at my girls.

I’ll never forget those few words I managed to get out before collapsing into a heap on my bed…

Read more of “The Day My Children Broke Me.”

I also have another piece syndicated on BLUNTmoms this week.
