font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px;\" datetime=\"2015-01-22T23:53:28+00:00\">Jan 22, 2015 at 3:53pm PST<\/time><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/platform.instagram.com\/en_US\/embeds.js\" async=\"\" defer=\"defer\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t usually tell them what to read (or what not to read) but I have to admit that since starting our homeschooling journey, figuring out what books my kids should read in their lives has been difficult. \u00a0I have scoured the internet for a list of the best books for kids and have come up empty-handed.<\/p>\n<p>We go to the library regularly and I allow each of the older kids to pick pretty much any books they want (though I do usually require them to pick at least a few non-fiction books each visit) and when there a few days ago I spotted a bunch of colorful pages titled &#8220;Favorite Books&#8221; and divided into different age\/grade levels and I was so excited. \u00a0Finally, the list of best books for kids I&#8217;d been dreaming of!<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Picture1.png\" alt=\"Picture1\" width=\"980\" height=\"376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Picture1.png 980w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Picture1-300x115.png 300w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Picture1-600x230.png 600w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Picture1-390x150.png 390w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Picture1-768x295.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I began looking them over when we got home and was instantly disappointed. \u00a0Not only was I unfamiliar with most of the titles (aside from a few that are part of popular series or some of the toddler\/preschool ones) but I didn&#8217;t even recognize any of the authors!<\/p>\n<p>The list of best books for kids that I&#8217;m envisioning is full of the latest fad stories about popular culture or series with little substance, I want a list that encompasses the BEST books for kids that every child needs to read. \u00a0The books that I read. \u00a0The books that my parents read. \u00a0The books that have stuck with me, changed who I am, the books that created me, the person. \u00a0Books like\u00a0<em>The Giver<\/em>, <em>Heidi<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Bridge to Terabithia<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Giving Tree<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The BFG<\/em>,\u00a0<em>The Cat in the Hat<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>The Boxcar Children<\/em> (book 1). \u00a0Books that have stood the test of time and are still good.<\/p>\n<p>So I&#8217;ve given up on my search for a magic list of the\u00a0best books for kids that I&#8217;ve been imagining and have decided to create my own. \u00a0And that is where I need some help. \u00a0I don&#8217;t remember all the great books I read. \u00a0I don&#8217;t know which ones I may have missed growing up but that my children shouldn&#8217;t (and that I&#8217;m certainly not too old to love now!)<\/p>\n<h2>So if you&#8217;ve got a love for reading great classic literature like I do, then help me out and let&#8217;s create our own list of the\u00a0best books for kids!<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10420\" src=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/best-books-list.png\" alt=\"best books for kids\" width=\"1152\" height=\"602\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/best-books-list.png 1152w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/best-books-list-300x157.png 300w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/best-books-list-600x314.png 600w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/best-books-list-390x204.png 390w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/best-books-list-768x401.png 768w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/best-books-list-1024x535.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.beyondmommying.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/best-books-list-1000x523.png 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1152px) 100vw, 1152px\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve created a form where you can fill in your favorite children&#8217;s books (any and all ages welcome!) which I will then compile into a list over time. \u00a0There is room on the form for 6 books and 3 series but feel free to fill out the form as many times as you need to get all your favorites on there! \u00a0In addition to the list I&#8217;ll be adding in some of the &#8220;why this book is great&#8221;
