When Life Happens, Blogging Doesn’t

I went to share a previous post on Facebook tonight and was shocked to notice that I’ve only added three new posts in the past week.  Honestly, I think that’s an all-time low in my blogging career.  I’ve always aspired to post daily (though I have cut back to Monday through Friday) and while I definitely take days off, I don’t know that I’ve missed so many days in one week before.

But it’s definitely not for lack of trying.  I knew I missed Friday.  And though I tried really hard to get something out earlier today (twice), it just didn’t happen.  I have more posts sitting unfinished than I’d like to admit.  It’s never that I run out of ideas of things to write about, with four kids I’m never short on material.  What I am short on, however, is time, energy, patience, and frankly, sometimes motivation.

It seems that every day my life gets busier and more hectic.  And I have less and less time.  And I can never find the needed energy to accomplish everything.  And then when all the stars do align and I have the opportunity to write, I just don’t want to sometimes.  I just want to sit on the couch and bask in the glory of the quiet.  And the sitting.  And I just want to check out, take in some TV and just do nothing for a while, just be nothing.

Here’s a glimpse at the past week:

Last Monday we headed to the courthouse first thing to order passports for Pipsqueak and Sugarplum (hers expired in August).  The kids and I headed to breakfast and run some errands while hubby waited for a tow truck when it wouldn’t start at the courthouse.  I picked him up at the dealership and miraculously got a post done (“To Schedule or Not to Schedule”) before I ran back to dealer to collect the car then collect Honeybun from ballet class after hubby dropped her then took Sugarplum to gymnastics (luckily my parents were able to come over and help out with the running around and Doodle watching.)

Tuesday the girls have a homeschool gymnastics class.  I finished up a post (“Fun Facts About Postpartum Recovery”) before I took them to class.  We did school (AKA argued a lot), took a nap, had dinner, went to bed.

Wednesday we don’t usually have any classes but somehow it’s also the day I usually have the least amount of motivation and neglect to post, it’s almost become a “recuperation” day!  Honestly, I don’t even know what we did that day.  Probably some school and Honeybun had a make-up ballet class from when we were in Colorado a few weeks ago and my parents were over and Sugarplum and I went to Target.  Oh, and I worked on Christmas presents.  That’s what I did all day.

Thursday I published “Leaving Baby for the First Time” and spent the entire day stressing over leaving Pipsqueak and making sure I had everything the kids would need for their overnight with Grandma and Grandpa and everything I would need for the party.

Friday we had a walk-through with the builder’s superintendent to go over needed repairs on the house.  Then hubby and I went out to breakfast as he took the day off for a doctor’s appointment and the big kids were with Grandma and Grandpa.  Pipsqueak and I hit the dollar store for stocking stuffers while hubby was at the doctor then I started a blog post while he got his hair cut, ran by the post office and met him at the car dealership to drop his car off (again) to finish the repairs they needed to order parts for.  Then we headed to my parents house, my mom and I went to a book sale, we had dinner then headed home, looking at the Christmas lights along the way.

Saturday we picked up hubby’s car, got lunch and went to the grocery store.  We tidied up the house before nap and had friends over for dinner.

Sunday we met my aunt for a Santa brunch which has become a Christmas tradition then the kids and I headed to my parent’s house (again) where we watched the yearly holiday boat parade while hubby headed to the airport and back to Dublin.  The kids and I all stayed the night with Grandma and Grandpa so they could keep the big three while I took Pipsqueak in for his 3 month well-check this morning(14 pounds, 14 ounces and 24 3/4 inches though that is about an inch short).  I stopped by a friend’s new house for a short visit, collected the kids and we were home just in time for nap so I could get Honeybun to ballet on time.  Turns out, though, that her little cold turned into a raging runny nose and sore throat during nap and we ditched ballet and did school instead.  And while I tried to get out a post, it didn’t happen.santa 2015

So here I am, blogging in the dark, writing about my mundane mommy life because it’s all I have the energy for as Pipsqueak sleeps soundly in his bed beside me after spending the past two days SCREAMING tired, only napping in the car or when someone else is holding and demanding I feed or stand with him otherwise.  And as I hit “publish,” close up my computer and snuggle down into bed, all I can hope is that he sleeps more than 2 hours at a time tonight.  Yet I can’t look at his sweet, sleepy face without smiling because my heart is full (even if my blog is not!)
