South Florida Parenting Back to School Splash

I made my debut in last month’s South Florida Parenting Magazine as one of the members of the Mom Approved Panel and my article, “Back to Homeschool” is currently featured in August’s Back to School Issue (page 56) and on the South Florida Parenting Magazine website!

And one of the best things about being a member of the panel is that I get insider information on what’s coming up!

The magazine is celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary this year and along with a super awesome anniversary edition coming up and tons of great family-friendly local events, they are also currently running a contest for South Florida Parenting readers:

For the kids: we’d love to get their ideas of what the world will look like in 25 years (the year 2040).
Email us a 50-word-or-less description of life in 2040, or draw us a picture, and we’ll put the best ideas in our September issue! Please submit kids’ entries for to southfloridaparenting@gmail.com and put “25” in the subject line.

For the parents: we want to know how YOU use South Florida Parenting! We’d especially love to connect with readers who interacted with South Florida Parenting (at an event or with the magazine) as a youth and now uses South Florida Parenting with their own children. Send us your story in 150 words or less to southfloridaparenting@gmail.com and put “25” in the subject line.

The first valid 25 entries we get from readers before noon Aug 12 will receive a South Florida Parenting Kids Fun Pass, valued at $12.95. Send your entry in now!

The next big event for South Florida Parenting is their Back to School Splash on August 16, held at the Westfield Broward Mall starting at 11 am.  The event will include exhibitors from schools, enrichment & medical facilities as well as many activities including a scavenger hunt, stage shows, crafts, face painting and balloon art. There will also be giveaways, prizes, enter-to-win, games and activities at each exhibitor table. The event, presented by Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital, will be emceed by James Changefield who will entertain with his magic shows and music and Ronald McDonald will also make an appearance plus there will be a Back to School Fashion Show hosted by Dillard’s.

Even as homeschoolers, I don’t know that we can pass up such a fun day out with the family, especially after all the fun we had at the 2015 Baby and Toddler Fair (unless of course, baby makes an appearance before then!)

Other fun South Florida events coming up this month include:

A Polynesian Party (August 8) which will include a mechanical swing ride, slide, Polynesian crafts, games and scavenger hunt, magic by James Changefield and free popcorn and sno-cones, held at the Dade County Federal Credit Union.

The Going Green Works free event (August 15) outside Macy’s at the Southland Mall will have recycling games and crafts, face painting, giveaways and prizes.

The 4th Annual WIC Breastfeeding Awareness Walk will be held August 29 at Women’s Park in Miami.  Presented by The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County, the free event will include a 1.8-mile walk around the park, breastfeeding and health booths, kid’s activities and music and raffles.
