High Efficiency Washing with My Green Fills

selestialWhen we moved house recently, we brought nearly everything we owned with us.  And I mean everything!  But one thing that you generally can’t take with you when selling house in Florida is the appliances.  This usually isn’t a problem because every house is sold with them but we bought a new construction home and while the kitchen appliances were included in our purchase, the laundry appliances were not.

No big deal, though, because that meant I got to go shopping!  While I didn’t know exactly what model of washer and dryer I wanted, I’ve known for awhile what type I wanted: a top loading high efficiency washer!

While I know many moms who love their front loading washers, we had one in Dublin and I absolutely HATED it!  It’s only saving grace was that it would keep Sugarplum entertained for an entire load but otherwise I found it cumbersome to load and unload and I hated that I couldn’t add forgotten items once the cycle had started.

But I didn’t want that to stop my family from receiving the benefits of the cleaning power and energy and water savings of a high efficiency so I knew the top loading high efficiency was just right for us.  We ended up scoring a great deal on a closeout model with matching high efficiency dryer (including steam dry which hubby is over the moon about!) but I have to admit that I was a little intimidated by my shiny new machines at first.

Using our new machine is not as simple as our (very) old fashioned one where I simply turned on the water, dumped in some detergent, threw in some clothes, shut the top (when I remembered!) and walked away.  There are rules with a high efficiency washer that are what make the machines work at their best:

  1. SONY DSCYou can’t just throw in the clothes, you have to arrange them in “loose heaps,” keeping the center clear which takes a bit more time than my previous dump and go method!
  2. You have to put most powder and liquid detergents in the dispenser, not in the basket (though pods do go in the basket which threw us for a loop when first reading the instructions for our first load).
  3. Once the cycle starts the lid does lock BUT if you need to add anything last minute, there is luckily a pause button!
  4. You have to use specially marked high efficiency detergents and products.

The last one was easy for me as just before we moved I was offered the opportunity to try Selestial’s My Green Fills line of laundry products which includes Laundry Soap, Fabric Softener, Color Safe Brightener and Enzyme Stain Remover, all of which are high efficiency approved.

SONY DSCMy Green Fills is a laundry subscription service in which you receive a bottle and refill pack with your first purchase and after which, refills packets are delivered straight to your door as often as you’d like.  No running to the store last minute when the baby has a blow out or throwing away heaps of plastic bottles, you simply refill the original bottle. And mixing the products is sooo simple, just fill the bottle with warm water, add the refill packet, give it a gentle shake and you’re good to go!

What I love about My Green Fills is not just the eco-friendliness but that the laundry soap is not thick and gooey like most laundry soaps so it’s not disastrously messy if you drip a little and it only takes a little to get a nice, clean load of laundry.  Plus the laundry soap has no heavy fragrance so your clothes just smell clean (though the fabric softener does have a light fragrance).

Overall I am so impressed with both my new machines AND the Selestial’s My Green Fills line of products and would recommend them to anyone (Doodle thinks it’s pretty cool to watch the machine spin through the top window, too)!  And now is your chance to try it for FREE (you will have to pay shipping).  Simply go to MyGreenFills.com and order yourself a free sample, I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do!
