8w2aHaHo: Zone 6, Girls’ Bedroom, After(ish)

I’m pretty amazed with myself that I made it all the way to week 6 before I failed at meeting my weekly cleaning/organizing goal.  While the girls’ room did not seem like to big of an undertaking, the amount of creative work that needed to be done proved too much.  I chose this room for last week since my mommy was here and I thought she would be able to help with the sewing projects but with my work schedule, taking advantage of the opportunity to go take ballet classes, spending time with my parents, and trying to keep my kids happy and entertained, I just didn’t have the time to get everything made and put together as I had hoped.

Their room did get organized and I was able to get some of the stuff I wanted completed so it wasn’t a total loss of a week, I just still have more to do. Luckily Zone 7 should be an easy one and I’ll hopefully be able to overlap and completed the girls’ room in addition to what I have to do this week.

202300_3334261404889_1450284309_o I chose a purple and yellow “flying things” theme way back almost 2 years ago when we first returned to Florida from Dublin.  I didn’t want heavy comforters for Florida and couldn’t find any lightweight quilts I liked for the girls that weren’t crazy expensive so I found some fabric I really liked and decided to make them.  Well, cue morning sickness, a new baby and a bag of fabric that never amounted to much.  That is until this past Christmas when I finally solicited the help of my mommy and sister and started the quilts.  Six months later and they’re still not done, BUT at least they’re started, right?

SONY DSCI’ve been slowly collecting things and decorating as I go and one of my favorite features is all the butterflies and dragonflies hanging from the ceiling.  I used wedding tulle (the 6″ kind that comes on spool for decorating church pews and stuff) which I tacked in each corner then wrapped around the ceiling fan (against the ceiling, not near the blades!).  I then hung their collection of bugs from the tulle. I had to tack the tulle up in a few places to keep it from handing too low and close to the fan but what we ended up with is a delightful little buggy wonderland that the girls adore!

So for now, here is where we stand:

And unfortunately there is no point in doing before and after pictures of the closet or bathroom because not much has changed there!
