Baby’s Movement Milestones

Most mommies know what movement milestones to expect during their child’s first year, but many don’t know when to expect them to occur.  Every developmental milestone, including those in the realm of gross motor development have an age range which is considered typical.  And while there is a general sequence of when milestones are reached, it is not uncommon for a child to hit one milestone before the next or to skip milestones altogether!

There are lots of movement milestones in the first year, but these are the big ones and when they typically occur:movement milestones

Rolling over:

Usually occurs between 2 and 6 months: a child can first roll from tummy to back or back to tummy.  This is often determined by how a baby plays and their preference to be on their tummy or back.d rolling over

Sitting unassisted:

Usually occurs between 5 and 8: As babies get stronger and can hold their heads up, they will being able to sit with support and will overtime develop the muscle strength and control to sit without help.h sitting

Crawling:

Usually occurs between 7 and 10 months: Not all babies crawl, but most babies will find a way to get around before walking (though not all!)h crawling

Pulling  Up to stand:

Usually occurs between 8 and 11 months: As babies become mobile they will begin to stand by getting leverage from anything they can pull up on such as tables, chairs and people.d pulling up to stand
