Discount Decorations

Even after completing Christmas this year, we still don’t have a lot of clear cut traditions which we hope to carry forward for our family.  But one tradition we have adopted after many holidays is post-holiday clearance shopping.

I started collecting clearanced holiday decorations after Easter when I just happened to be at a store after the holiday that had tons of decorations and I bought a few really cute things that I had my eye on before the holiday.  Then hubby and I went to Target the morning  after Halloween before he went to work and bought a bunch of clearanced Halloween decorations.

So, no surprise this morning we ventured out to do the same for Christmas.  Many of our older Christmas lights did not work this year so I was on the hunt for new ones for next year and I got some really good deals.  I’ve found shopping for decorations AFTER the holiday is great for many reasons:

  1. You save lots of money by buying things when they’re 50% or more off
  2. By waiting until after you’ve decorated you know exactly what you need and/or want
  3. For me, having less to choose from helps me make decisions especially on bigger, more expensive things where I really like lots of things but don’t want to spend big money.

By shopping after Christmas, I got all of this for just a little bit more than the reindeer would have been before Christmas and I was able to replace all my lights that were broken this year without breaking the bank!
