Black Friday

DSC00745 (3)I used to LOVE Black Friday! To the point of going to bed early after Thanksgiving Dinner so I could wake up and go shopping at midnight (back in the day when noone was open ON Thanksgiving and that was the earliest you could go). Even Honeybun’s first thanksgiving when we were in Colorado, my sister and I headed to the outlets at midnight. And then we were up and out the door at 8 am the next morning to get the morning deals!

One of my favorite parts is reading the ads (ironically, this is my favorite part of Sunday morning too…). I like to see what’s on sale, what’s popular and see the great prices. Even if I don’t go shopping, I just like to see what’s “out there”!

Unfortunately, my love for Black Friday kind of died when we moved to Dublin. This mostly because, well, Black Friday doesn’t exist because Thanksgiving doesn’t exist (remember, it’s an American holiday?).

So this year I insisted we hit the Balck Friday scene again. We debated whether we would head out thanksgiving night or Black Friday morning. Our decision was easily made when we realized Massachusettes is one of only 3 states that prohibits Black Friday shopping before Black Friday so we went Friday morning. We didn’t rush out since we only had 2 stores we wanted to go to and were only looking for 2 things.

I was shocked to see virtually no crowds and we ended up doing nearly the entire (though small) mall. The longest line we saw was at the coffee shop. I do have to say though, that while we got some really great deals, I was overall underwhelmed by my first Black Friday expience in many years. I didn’t even find the two things I set out to get. Oh well, I guess there are still 22 more shopping days until Christmas and now that we know what exactly we want for the girls, maybe Cyber Monday will be better to me!
