All in the Family

I think when most people have their first child, they spend the first days comparing their new sweet little family member to themselves and grandparents.  We tend to look for similarities and discuss which little faces look like which aunt, uncle or cousin.  With our second child we still compared little Sugarplum to the family that came before, she had Grandma’s little mouth and Daddy’s fierce temper.  But we have found ourselves with little man #3 constantly comparing him to his sisters.

The resemblance between Doodle and Honeybun is absolutely undeniable:H baby SONY DSC

But we are also constantly comparing personalities, expressions, temperament and behaviors.  Doodle thus far has been a very calm and happy baby, very similar to Honeybun .  He makes the same little sleepy smirks and has even busted out what we adoringly called her “stretchy face” a few times.  He only cries when he’s desperate to nurse and the rest of his days are spent in happy slumber or calmly looking around, getting to know his new environment and family.

Where he is most like Sugarplum, though, is in his activity level.  Sugarplum was extremely active from early in pregnancy and she has not stopped moving since.  Doodle was an active baby in the belly as well and is now extremely strong and dying to more around.  He is constantly kicking and flailing when he’s awake and tries to grab at things that are near his face.  When we put him on the floor he rolls from side to side and is constantly trying to lift his head while we hold him.  He is already strong enough to hold his head upright for a few seconds on his own.

I know as he grows his own little personality will come through but for now we can’t help but notice all the ways he is like his sisters whom love and adore him more than I ever thought they would.
