A Mother’s Love

h 1st valentines

I spend a lot of complaining about being a mommy so in honor of Valentine’s Day I thought I would share a few of the things I love about my children:

I LOVE Sugarplum’s sweet little voice and how she uses such big girl phrases

I LOVE how Honeybun is so proud when she learns new things in school

I LOVE Sugarplum’s squished up smile face she makes when she’s trying really hard to smile

I LOVE feeling my sweet little baby slosh around in my belly (and lets me know I’m squishing him/her by violently kicking me)

I LOVE how I can have a real conversation with Honeybun about very adult things (like why we blink) and she gets it

I LOVE the way Sugarplum  says “Thank You” automatically when I do something for her

I LOVE how Honeybun gets so upset when Sugarplum doesn’t want a hug or a kiss

I LOVE the looks on my girls’ faces when we do something special or new for them

I LOVE how Sugarplum still asks to be carried like my little baby (even though I can’t right now :[ )

I LOVE how Honeybun demands a hug every night before bed even though we always give her kisses

I LOVE how Sugarplum wraps her arms around Honeybun and hugs her so tight

I LOVE watching my girls dance around the room in their mommy made tutus and how proud they are to show me their arabesques and passes

I LOVE when Honeybun does such helpful big girls things for me like putting English muffins in the toaster when I forgot and can’t leave my sauce

I LOVE how Sugarplum gives such awkward little kisses that still take so much effort

I LOVE how every time I leave Honeybun looks me in the eye and says “Mommy, you’ll come back, right?  You always come back.”

I LOVE the excitement my girls have every night when Daddy gets home from work

I LOVE how Sugarplum says “Wub You” for no reason

I LOVE how excited Honeybun is about the new baby coming and always wants to feel the baby move and asks how the baby is doing

I LOVE how Sugarplum can entertain herself almost all morning while Honeybun is at school and I can get things done

I LOVE how I can sit on the couch with Honeybun and watch Rick Steves’ Europe without her getting bored (cause “Mommy, we’ve been there!”)

I LOVE listening to my girls sing in the car

I LOVE how Sugarplum wraps herself around my belly and repeatedly whispers “I Love you baby”

I LOVE dreaming about how amazing the next baby will be and how much I’m going to love her/him (and already do!)

I LOVE how sometimes Honeybun makes a face and for a fleeting moment she looks just like the tiny little baby that changed my whole world

I LOVE how just thinking about how much I love my children makes me tear up

And maybe it’s selfish but I LOVE how much they LOVE me, even on my worst days.

But most of all, I LOVE that they are mine to keep and love forever.
